Cake of semolina with mandarins

Ingredients
100 g sugar
2 vanilla
130 g butter
3 eggs
150 g flour
150 g semolina
2 1/2 tsp baking powder (equal)
pinch of cinnamon
75 g ground hazelnuts
150 ml milk
700 g mandarins, canned
50 g almonds, chopped
Method
Heat the oven to 170 C or 150 C fan. Beat the sugar, vanilla and soft butter. Add the eggs one by one. Mix separately meal, flour, baking powder, hazelnuts and cinnamon. Pour a shift with milk to butter mixture, beating constantly taking. Square pan on the oven cover with baking paper. Dough smears on it. Cover with drained mandarins, sprinkle with almonds and bake 45 minutes.

canned mandarins can they be replaced with fresh?

I have not tried. Canned mandarins are no flakes and dry when baked. When the pieces are flakes, surely they become hard. I would have tried more with other fruit - peach example, cut into slices not very thick.
