Dumplings with plums

Ingredients
1 kg potatoes
1 egg
1 and 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp salt
about 10 prunes
20 sugar cubes
100 g breadcrumbs
50 g butter or margarine
powdered sugar for sprinkling

Method
Plums are washed, dried and split into two halves (cut in the general part, not in length). Breadcrumbs Fry gently in the heated butter (margarine). Cook potatoes, peel while still hot and immediately crushed by press or latticework of kitchen utensil set. Add the salt, the butter, egg and flour gradually. Kneads dough. As the dough is soft, working with wet hands. Grebva with wet spoon the dough, make hand small pita, put half a plum and a lump of sugar in it. Form a ball, which is placed in boiling salted water. This continues until a row dumplings in cooking vessel. Boil until come to the surface. Remove with a slotted spoon, drain as well. So continue boiling portions until all cooked dumplings (usually 2 or 3 times). Drained dumplings are rolled in breadcrumbs. When serving, sprinkle with powdered sugar. For the filling can be used and compote of prunes, but well drained. The same happens with a piece of apple, apricot, peach.

Ina did not know what to expect (not just that for the first time make dumplings, but first eat) :) I was very impressed by the combination of potatoes with prunes, it seemed to me a little of the usual, but. .. we liked :) I admit I missed the potatoes and salt them lightly sweetened (do not know if he ruined the traditional taste of dumplings), but at home definitely emphasize sweet :)

I had to make a few changes: I had no sugar lumps and put the bulk, I had no bread crumbs and then swapped with crushed crackers. Home is very warm and shaping the dumplings was difficult, but the end result I liked a lot. I try not to eat very sweet and this recipe fit the bill very well.

Reni, very glad that you decided to try the recipe! The combination is really unusual, and the taste is unknown. In our family dumplings cherish, because we are used to them. If you do again, leaving the salt in the dough. The addition of sugar in the fruit and then sprinkling with powdered sugar (put more when you are sweet:) /, will suffice. Thank you very much! Gerry, thank you! I am glad that you try it out! Sugar cubes are placed only for practicality. With bulk harder form dumplings. With toasted breadcrumbs taste is different, but this does not prevent it is with cookies. Made a new version, great! Shaping dumplings guess they is not difficult because of the warm, perhaps because of the potatoes. Depends on the variety. More successful are dumplings with a dry, crisp, and potatoes. I also struggled last time. This year I planted a new variety that and I do not like cooking. I had to add a little more flour and I felt that the dough becomes even softer instead thicken! I'm also not very sweet, so dumplings for me not sprinkled with sugar. Every taste!
